The Providence Public School District has worked diligently to implement the strategies and supports outlined in our 2013 “Opening Doors to Our Children’s Future” roadmap for achievement. That’s why we are pleased to present our 2014 “On The Move” report which shows that real progress is being made on a number of key indicators of student success.
We have increased our graduation rate, decreased our dropout rate, improved our attendance rate and decreased chronic student absenteeism. We are also beginning to see improvements in reading proficiency for our younger students thanks to programs like the Providence Reads initiative and its counterpart program, Leyendo, both designed to support early learning and grade level reading.
These improvements have been made possible by the hard work of our principals, teachers, staff and community partners in implementing three priority strategies to drive teaching and learning in our school district: Creating Systems That Work, Highly Effective Educators and Student Centered Learning.
