Halloween Costume Contest Raises Money for Backpack Program

A vampiress, Bride of Frankenstein, a witch and a gangster helped to scare up $275 to benefit Sodexo’s Backpack Program, as they competed in a Halloween costume contest and parade  in the School Administration Building on Friday, October 31.

Participants paraded through the building as coworkers voted for Best Costumes. All participants received a $5 gift certificate from Sodexo to use in the 797 Café.

First place winner Martha DeMelendez of the Superintendent’s Office won a gift certificate to the Capital Grille for her Bride of Frankenstein costume. Second-place winner LaShonna Semedo of Human Resources, who dressed as a flapper from the Roaring ‘20s, won second place and a cubicle survival basket, while third-place winner Wendy Sisson of Human Resources received a bottle of wine for her Cleopatra costume.

The Sodexo Backpack program provides nutritious, non-perishable meals and snacks for children when subsidized and reduced-price lunches are not available on weekends and during school vacations.
