In a shutout 5-0 game against the Cumberland Clippers on Election Day, November 4, Classical’s field hockey team won the Division II final at Roger Williams University in Bristol. This is the second state championship for the Purple field hockey team since their 2002 win over South Kingstown.
The scoring drive was led by Division II Player of the Year Tessa Griffin.
“I am beyond elated with being state champions! This team has worked incredibly hard this season and wanted to be the champs more than anything,” said Coach Loughlin. “Karen Hickey, Carla Cavanagh and I enjoy every moment we get to coach them! This team has broken all of Classical’s records for field hockey (highest points, highest goal score, most wins in a season). What was great about this season was that it wasn’t just one star that got the job done but a team of dedicated athletes. No one person does all the work. They are the definition of a great team.”
