Providence Schools students lent a special touch to the public inaugural celebrations for the city’s 38th mayor, Jorge Elorza, who took office on Monday, January 5.
During the public inauguration, held on the steps of Providence City Hall, first- and second-graders from Lillian Feinstein Elementary School at Sackett Street performed a song prior to the start of the ceremony, then led the Pledge of Allegiance.
The National Anthem was performed by Ashley Soto, a junior at Classical High School, the new mayor’s alma mater.
Later in the evening, Mayor Elorza hosted his One Providence Inaugural Celebration at the Cranston Street Armory featuring food and performances that highlight Providence’s artistic, cultural and culinary scene.
Students from William D’Abate Elementary School, who participate in the Manton Avenue Project, a nonprofit that supports students in writing and producing plays, wrote and sang a song for Mayor Elorza at the One Providence Celebration.
