Providence’s 38th Mayor, Jorge Elorza, met with staff at the central administration building, just four days after officially taking office, as part of his pledge to visit every department in the city during his first weeks in City Hall.
During the informal meet-and-greet, Mayor Elorza talked about his priorities for the city, which will include a new focus on sports, recreation, and cultural arts programs. He also introduced members of his administrative team who joined him for the visit.
A graduate of Classical High School who also attended Asa Messer Elementary School and Bridgham Middle School, Mayor Elorza stressed the importance of improving educational outcomes for the city’s students, beginning with every employee at every school. He also announced to staff, and later that morning to the public, that Supt. Dr. Susan Lusi will remain as Providence Schools superintendent, with a contract extension through the end of the 2015-2016 school year.
