Ed German has been named Wrestling Coach of the Year for his work with the Hope High School wrestling team.
This has been a successful year for the team, which placed 9th in the state out of 34 teams. Four students achieved state rankings: Ellery Costa, third; Marcoy Adotevi, third; Ray Richards, fifth; and Adonis Toribio, fifth. Named to the 1st Team All-Division are Marcoye Adotevi and Adonis Toribio, and named to the 2nd team All-Division are Ellery Costa and Demetri Narvaez. Three students received all-academic awards with a GPA of 3.5 or above: Elijah Akindolie, Ruben Blanco and Austin Forestier.
A wrestling coach for 10 years, this is the second time German was named coach of the year, an honor he earned in 2010, and twice as an assistant coach in 2006 and 2008. He is a consulting teacher with the TRAIN (Teacher Retention and Induction Network) program and was previously a special education teacher at Nathanael Greene Middle School.

Providence Future Chef winner Emily Figueroa of Robert F. Kennedy Elementary School advanced to the regional semifinals as one of the Top 40 contestants throughout the U.S. Although she did not advance to the national finals, Emily won an Apple iPad Mini and an iTunes gift card.
