Principals and assistant principals in the Providence Public School District enjoyed a fun fiesta at their end-of-year gathering at the Roger Williams Park Casino. Supt. Dr. Susan Lusi and Chief of Instruction, Leadership and Equity Dr. Lori McEwen offered remarks, thanking building administrators for their dedication and hard work on behalf of their staffs, students and families. Chief of Administration Joseph DiPina then acted as emcee, raffling off restaurant gift cards and more.

Whether they tossed their caps or decorated them, cheered jubilantly or walked quietly across the stage, more than 1000 seniors who graduated from Providence’s eight high schools were filled with pride, excitement and a few tears.

Mayor Jorge Elorza joined Superintendent Dr. Susan Lusi and other Providence Schools officials to honor parents who’ve taken advantage of the numerous programming opportunities open to them this year. From Rosetta Stone® English-language learning classes to the 16 varieties of workshops offered through the Providence Parent Academy, hundreds of Providence parents increased their skills and abilities to support their students this year.

Girls on the Run to return to MLK this fall

Back by popular demand!  Next fall, Dr. Martin Luther King Elementary (MLK) School will again host a Girls on the Run team. This nonprofit organization works to encourage pre-teen girls to develop self-respect and healthy lifestyles through dynamic, interactive lessons and running games, culminating in a celebratory 5K race.

Proving that rocket science is not just for aeronautical wizards, sixth-graders at Roger Williams Middle School (RWMS) transformed the field behind their school into a supersized launch pad as they engaged in a fun culminating activity for a unit on planetary science.
