Whether they tossed their caps or decorated them, cheered jubilantly or walked quietly across the stage, more than 1000 seniors who graduated from Providence’s eight high schools were filled with pride, excitement and a few tears.

Graduation ceremonies for the district’s seniors from Central, Jorge Alvarez, Hope, Classical, Mt. Pleasant, the Providence Career and Technical Academy and E-Cubed Academy were held at the Rhode Island College’s Roberts Hall and Veterans Memorial Auditorium from June 8-12.

Principals and assistant principals, teachers, classmates, School Board members, Mayor Elorza and Supt. Dr. Susan Lusi, who presided over her final graduation ceremonies as the district’s superintendent, offered sincere congratulations and their own words of wisdom.

Many of our seniors overcame tremendous obstacles to finish high school, yet persevered to receive their diplomas. Here are a few stories of our seniors, whose paths to the graduation stage were particularly difficult, as they look forward to the next phase of their lives with focus and determination.
